Devara, one of the biggest Tollywood blockbusters of 2024, stars Jr NTR in a dual role and is directed by Siva Koratala.After it blockbuster theatrical run in Indian the action thriller is set for it’s grand release in Japan soon. The release is being handled by Twin, the same distributor behind Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD, with ticket sales set to begin on January 3, 2025.
Jr NTR has garnered a massive fan following in Japan, especially after the success of RRR, and his popularity continues to soar. It will be interesting to see how Japanese audiences embrace this movie. The film’s music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander. Devara: Part 1 was released worldwide on 27 September 2024 in standard, IMAX, 4DX, ScreenX, D-Box, MX4D, and PVR ICE formats in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada languages to mixed reviews from critics.
The film grossed Rs132 crore worldwide on its opening day, becoming Jr. NTR’s second-biggest opener after RRR. The film grossed Rs 200 crore worldwide in two days of its release. and also crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in India. In its opening weekend, the film collected Rs 250 crore globally. According to Wikipedia, the film collected Rs 521 crores in its lifetime theatrical run worldwide. On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 33% of 18 critics’ reviews are positive, with an average rating of 5.7/10.
The digital distribution rights of the film were acquired by Netflix for Rs 155 crore and are currently streaming in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada languages with English subtitles.
Jr NTR has a large fan following in Japan, especially after the success of RRR. A Japanese fan traveled 9,000 km from Tokyo to Los Angeles to watch Devara at Beyond Fest 2024. Recently Prabhas’ Kalki: Part One 2898 AD made its grand debut at the Japan box office; now NTR’s Devara is all set to rock the Japan box office.
Devara is set to debut at Japanese theaters on March 28, 2025, and a source revealed that ticket sales are set to begin on January 3, 2025.
