Kamal Haasan Reveals Delay on Mani Ratnam Collaboration

Mani Ratnam Collaboration: Veteran actor Kamal Haasan held a press meet today ahead of the much-anticipated release of Thug Life, scheduled to hit theaters on June 5, 2025. Directed by the talented filmmaker Mani Ratnam, Thug Life features Kamal Haasan in a complex role that the actor says he found deeply immersive.


Kamal described Thug Life as his “favorite film” and revealed the challenge of shedding the character after filming. “This film takes a long time to get out of this character. For getting out of this character, I need to do another film,” he shared candidly, underscoring the emotional depth and commitment involved in his performance.

Cast and Crew of Thug Life:
Thug Life stars Kamal Haasan alongside a strong supporting cast including Trisha Krishnan, Silambarasan TR, Ravi Mohan, Abhirami, and many others with Mani Ratnam at the helm as director and music director AR Rahman, cinematography by Ravi K. Chandran. The film promises a gripping narrative and high production values that have fans eager for its release.


Kamal Hassan Trolls Mani Ratnam:
During the press conference, Kamal also spoke at length about his enduring creative partnership with acclaimed director Mani Ratnam. He congratulated Mani Ratnam on the noticeable improvements in his Telugu language skills, noting, “In the beginning he used to say ‘namskaram,’ but now he says ‘andariki namaskaram.’ His Telugu is improved, his direction also improve,d which is surprising.”

Reflecting on his artistic journey, Kamal said, “I have evolved as an artist and started learning most of the crafts in filmmaking. I’m happy to meet Mani Ratnam, whose direction has improved. I was happy to meet that old Mani Ratnam also, but now I’m ready to meet this side of Mani Ratnam.”

Kamal Hassan reveals the Delay reason:
He took responsibility for the delays in their collaborations, stating, “The delay is because of me; it’s because I had to evolve. We have always travelled together and that’s what we are doing.” Kamal also assured fans of future projects with Mani Ratnam, saying, “In the future also, we are going to do movies together.”

Kamal’s Response on ‘Guru’:

Kamal described himself as a lifelong student of cinema, encouraging fellow actors, “Don’t expect from me. I teach everyone; I have to learn more, and right now I’m learning. If you also want to learn, you can also join me and learn.”

Praising Mani Ratnam’s meticulous approach, Kamal likened the director to a gardener who “picks very carefully” and expressed his desire to develop a “green thumb” like him. He shared an interesting insight into his acting process: “When I’m working with Mani Ratnam, I don’t need to act; I just need to behave. With other directors, I misbehave on request.”
