Yet, the re-release soon became an event of celebration and a bit of controversy. Mahesh Babu Fans Went Wild in the theatres as their excitment on re release of this cul classic film has been saved for the day.
With advance bookings crossing ₹3.5 crore, fans flocked into cinema halls to experience the magic of the 2010 film again. Special fan screenings on May 29 paved the way for a charged ambience.
Missing Footage Sparks Outrage
Even with the euphoria, fans were left disappointed when they learned that almost 20 minutes of scenes, including the hit “Sunday Monday” song, were missing in the re-released version. Videos circulating on the internet had furious fans confronting cinema staff and seeking answers.
In a strange accident, a Vijayawada fan went into a crowded theater with a live snake, trying to replicate an iconic scene from the movie. The audience was initially fooled into believing it was a prop, but the movement of the snake put it into panic mode.
Ticked fans escalated their anger to the extreme and vandalized theater property protesting against the censored version. A few shows were disrupted as audiences refused to screen anything but the full, uncut movie.
Production Team Responds
After the outcry, the filmmakers again recovered the cut scenes for all the following shows. They promised fans on social media that the issue had been handled, inviting them to enjoy Khaleja in its entirety.
Apart from the initial performance at the box office, Khaleja reached its position as a fan favorite film among Mahesh Babu’s fans. The re-release not only made fans feel the nostalgia but also exhibited the enthusiasm of Telugu cinema fans.
