MM Keeravani’s Father:
The renowned music director and Oscar winner, MM Keeravani, is mourning a great personal loss. His father, Shiva Shakti Datta, passed away at the age of 92 on the night of July 7, 2025. Shiva Shakti, also known as Koduri Subbarao, was a celebrated lyricist, screenwriter, and artist who left an indelible mark on the Telugu film industry.
Born on October 8, 1932, in Kovvur, near Rajahmundry, Shiva Shakti’s early interest in arts led him to pursue formal education in Mumbai at the Sir J.J. School of Art. After returning to his hometown, he became a renowned artist under the pen name ‘Kamalesh’. He later developed a passion for music and learned various instruments, including the sitar, guitar, and harmonium. His musical contributions to Telugu cinema earned him significant recognition.
Shiva Shakti Datta was also the brother of Vijayendra Prasad, the father of filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli. His association with Rajamouli’s family and his contribution to the cultural fabric of Telugu cinema made him a well-known figure. He wrote songs for several Telugu films, cementing his place in the history of the industry.
MM Keeravani, who has been a key figure in the Indian music scene, has now lost his guiding force. The entire film and music community are deeply saddened by this unfortunate news.
