Rajasaab Trailer: Although Prabhas’ Rajasaab trailer was released online, it wasn’t able to generate the excitement you’d expect from such a first look. Rather it sent a cascade of negative feedback and trolling through media platforms with lots of criticism of the visuals, performances, and presentation. If anything, it has resulted in fierce debates over the quality of big-budget cinema in India rather than a buzz about the film itself.
The biggest grumble is over the visual effects in the film. Viewers were quick to flag up the cartoonish presentation and overuse of green screen, with many feeling that it appeared jarring, not immersive. Memes and sarcastic remarks are pouring across timelines, with many contrasting the visuals to old video games. Viewers contend that a movie touted as a epic spectacle has to have much higher levels of polish in its technical presentation.
To add to the criticism, the lead actor Prabhas has also been on the receiving end of social media disapproval. Netizens deemed his facial expressions and on-screen presence as “odd” and “detached” and not done enough to lift the already wavering visuals. For many, it has been all the more disappointing because Prabhas is a hugely popular star and fan-favorite for his larger-than-life portrayals.
The trailer has understandably invited comparisons with Adipurush, another high-profile film that had to face the criticism of its substandard VFX and contentious handling. Many are even going to the extent of calling Rajasaab “worse than Adipurush,” pointing to the absence of believable performances and technical grace. The term “Adipurush 2.0” has already gone viral, fueling the negative buzz about the film.
Far from generating buzz, however, the trailer launch has left people wondering. With anticipation high for visual fireworks from Indian movies, Rajasaab must now struggle to win hearts prior to its release.
