Although he impressed audiences with several films before, Hanuman turned out to be a massive hit and made him a popular name across India. Riding high on its success, Prashanth Varma received offers from many top producers, but those very offers now seem to have landed him in trouble. The issue has become a hot topic in the film industry.
It’s been two years since Hanuman was released. At this time, two of Prashanth Varma’s planned films were shelved, one with Bollywood star Ranveer Singh and another with Balakrishna’s son Mokshagna. Even though these projects didn’t take off, the director hasn’t been idle. He is currently working on Mahakali in his cinematic universe, where he is supervising the direction. His next directorial project is expected to be Jai Hanuman.
After the success of Hanuman, Prashanth Varma reportedly took hefty advances from several major Tollywood production houses, promising to deliver big-budget films. Industry talk suggests he received around ₹80–100 crore as advances. Using that money, he even built his own studio in Hyderabad. Now, producers are said to be unhappy, as Prashanth Varma is allegedly refusing to direct new films, saying he will only provide stories or supervise direction. Some producers are reportedly considering taking the matter to the Film Chamber to file a complaint.

Meanwhile, DVV Entertainments, the banner behind OG, issued a clarification on X (formerly Twitter), stating that they have not paid any advance or had any financial dealings with Prashanth Varma. This has raised doubts about the authenticity of the ongoing rumors. Other production houses are also expected to respond soon. Until then, it’s a wait-and-watch situation in Tollywood.
