Rajendra Prasad wanted to commit suicide: The actor reveals

Rajendra Prasad has been making some controversial statements during recent events. At one point, he criticized Pushpa but later attempted to downplay it by referring to Bunny as his friend. He also made negative comments about David Warner at the Robin Hood event, which led to him releasing a video apology. Most recently, at the Shashtipurthi teaser launch event, he sparked controversy again by stating that Ilayaraja’s music has turned everyone, including Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, and himself, into heroes.

The actor reveals

“Thank you to the media and audience who have supported me for 48 years. My Swami (Ilaiyaraaja) has met me for all these years. He made Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Rajendra Prasad and others heroes with his music. Even though my first film Preminchu Pelladu didn’t work, he gave me the song Gopemma Chethulo After that, I did Ladies Tailor. After Preminchu Pelladu, I thought of committing suicide. Before that, I earned money by dubbing and built a house in Chennai. Preminchu Pelladu, which I turned into a hero, didn’t succeed. If I hadn’t made Ladies Tailor, I would have died.

I worked on a movie called Lawyer Suhasini. During filming, a guy named Vamsi had me fight against a new villain, which ended up breaking my leg. I found myself at home with bandages, and when Vamsi came to visit, he told me that Sami was calling for me. He said he would only proceed if I showed up. So, I went, limping along.

He asked, “Are you acting that well? Will your performance win? Will my music win?” We’ll see. They ended up re-recording it for three days.

My journey in the film industry began with that movie. Many years later, I returned with a film called Shashtipurthi. While I managed to escape the challenges of my real-life “shashtipurthi,” Pawan and Roopesh supported me in this project. Keeravani wrote a song for this movie, which marks his hundredth film. My connection with him isn’t new, and I’m delighted to reunite with him today.

Even after spending 48 years in the industry, I feel a fresh wave of excitement for this new story and role in Shashtipurthi.”
