Ram Gopal Varma Praises Nagarjuna’s Iconic Role in Shiva

Ram Gopal Varma: The movie ‘Shiva’ is a sensation in King Nagarjuna’s career. This movie directed by Ram Gopal Varma has created a new trend in Tollywood. Recently, RGV talked about the movie ‘Shiva’ in an interview and explained about the dialogue that Nagarjuna said in a scene. He said that no hero has said the dialogues like Nag said in the last 35 years. RGV explained about a special emotion in it.

King Akkineni Nagarjuna’s career is a cult classic movie ‘Shiva’. This movie, directed by Ram Gopal Varma in 1989, has created history. It has become an evergreen landmark movie in the Telugu film industry. Also, it has set a new trend in Tollywood, which was going in a stereotyped direction till then. The movie has completely changed the way of making movies and watching movies. That is why we talk about Telugu cinema before ‘Shiva’ and after ‘Shiva’. However, RGV recently shared interesting things about this path-breaking film in a podcast.

Shiva, The Iconic role of Nagarjuna

Nagarjuna’s role in the movie ‘Shiva’ stands out as a highlight. He acted very settled as a college student. Also created a lot of impact with small dialogues instead of giving huge dialogues. However, Ram Gopal Varma made key comments that no hero has ever said the dialogues that Nag said in a scene in that movie. ”I recently watched the movie ‘Shiva’ again after 35 years. “I realized something I had never realized before. Thirty-five years after I made it, I understood one point. Not only me, but no one understood it for all these years. Even though it was already a successful film, not a single filmmaker, including me, had tried something like that,” RGV explained what that element was.

“In a scene in the movie Shiva, after Nagarjuna beats up JD Chakravarthy, the principal asks, ‘What is rowdyism in college?’ Nagarjuna replies, ‘You don’t take action against those who disturb classes and you don’t care about those who make girls cry. You are asking me for an explanation for turning against those who came to beat you up while we were walking. You may have your problems, but I am not as great as Gandhi to show my cheek if someone comes to beat me up.'” However, Nag says that dialogue with a hint of emotion.

“Nagarjuna can say that dialogue angrily or with a swag. But no hero has said it in the tone Nag said. I am not saying that Nagarjuna has done that in all his films. He has said it in the character of Shiva. This is something I have realized now after 35 years. The uniqueness of the hero is that he does not speak like a hero, but speaks like a normal man. Shiva was emotionally hurt, and spoke accordingly. In another scene, after the death of Shubhlekha Sudhakar, Shiva says very casually, ‘If you kill Bhavani, who killed Mallini, Ganesh will become Bhavani. First, you have to kill the system that gives birth to them.’ But in other films, when the hero says the same dialogue, they add a tracking shot to it, close-up, add sound effects, and show it with a music change over. But no one says it simply,” RGV said.
