Rana Backs Structured Work Hours in Tollywood After Deepika Exit

Rana Backs Structured Work Hours: Telugu actor Rana Daggubati recently spoke about Tollywood’s systematic work culture. Bringing to the fore a business but hitherto unspoken aspect of the industry—that of working hours. His comments are at a time when Deepika Padukone of Bollywood was stated to have walked out of the upcoming film Spirit due to a dispute over working hours, and had kindled controversies throughout the industry.

Deepika Padukone was approached first to collaborate with Prabhas in Spirit, which is being directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Her insistence on an eight-hour workday even when pregnant, according to reports, was not the project’s wish. She thus left the project. The episode has thrown the field open to broader industry discussion regarding work culture and professionalism.

Rana Daggubati Stand Up for Organized Work Culture
While talking in a recent interview, Rana Daggubati said Telugu cinema in essence follows an eight-hour working schedule. “Some actors may do four hours, but when it comes to Telugu cinema we try to have an eight-hour schedule,” he added. What he has to say here sounds more like an attempt to convey how disciplined and time-conscious the Telugu industry is rather than complaining.

Balancing Art and Discipline
Rana’s research establishes that normal working hours are advantageous to the actors and the entire crew. Normalizing the working hours ensures efficiency, reliability, and balance in work life. The practice also encourages respect among sets since each department receives a clear picture of the day’s picture.

Industry-Wide Implications
With Padukone’s move invoking controversy, Rana’s voice pleading for fixed timings lends legitimacy to a necessity for change in other film industries as well. As actresses and women in the field demand better and better working conditions, voices from the field like Rana’s pleading for change bring these issues to the mainstream.

Towards a More Professional Film Industry
Rana Daggubati’s faith in a disciplined working environment in Tollywood supports a commitment to unconfusing and respect when filming. As the industry matures, it might be reasonable to consider that healthy boundaries and designated hours might be the new normal, not just in Telugu cinema, but in all of Indian cinema.
