Rashmika Vijay Engagement: Rashmika Mandanna made her film debut in Kirik Party (2016), a widely successful Kannada film, that, apart from being her introduction as an actor, allowed her to get close to co-star Rakshit Shetty. The two had great chemistry on screen, which led to speculation about a relationship as devotees and members of the media made the inferences between the two.
By July of 2017, the speculations and conjectures turned out to be real. Rashmika and Rakshit got engaged in Virajpet (her home town in Kodagu). The engagement was relatively private and only attended by family and close friends; however, it quickly made the headlines in Karnataka. At only 21, Rashmika was poised for the limelight of both a successful career and a relationship, while Rakshit, already an established actor in Sandalwood, presented a steady backdrop to Rashmika fulfilling her destiny.
The engagement lasted only a short while. The couple broke off their engagement in September 2018, because they were “incompatible,” according to both families. The families agreed there was incompatibility, but industry insiders speculated that Rashmika’s growing work in Telugu movies pulled her attention elsewhere. What was portrayed in public as a personal decision was also about dealing with difficulties of managing personal relationships with careers that require working in multiple film industries.
To their credit, neither Rashmika nor Rakshit engaged in public drama, in spite of feelings of hurt either could have expressed. They acted with grace – both congratulating each other on whatever professional milestones they had achieved, but distancing their personal lives from any drama that pushed beyond their part in the public experience. The approach was appreciated by both fan bases, and neither became sensationalized in a public way.
By definition, Rashmika’s decision reflects boldness and conviction. To simply walk away from an engagement, even one that has been public and somewhat celebrated, isn’t easy. But, ultimately, to make clear that personal inclination and connection are more valuable than being in a public commitment reflects maturity. So much of her experience in the public spotlight adaptation seems to be panning out for her in her work now either in Sandalwood or Tollywood: if she were always abou the experience they are as often located in either context now.
