S S Rajamouli: The 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which has captivated cricket fans for over two thrilling months, has reached its grand finale. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were the first to seal a spot in the final, while Punjab Kings made a spectacular entry by defeating Mumbai Indians in a gripping Qualifier 2 clash on Sunday night.
Mumbai, having opted to bat first after losing the toss, posted an impressive total of 203/6. In response, Punjab Kings chased down the target with style, scoring 207/5 with one over to spare. Captain Shreyas Iyer led from the front with an unbeaten 87 off just 41 balls, smashing 5 fours and 8 sixes to seal the victory. With this feat, Iyer became the first captain to lead three different franchises to an IPL final, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and now Punjab Kings. Remarkably, this is Punjab’s first final appearance in 11 years, all thanks to Iyer’s masterclass.
Renowned filmmaker SS Rajamouli, a passionate cricket enthusiast, shared his thoughts on the nail-biting match and the upcoming final via X (formerly Twitter). He particularly lauded Shreyas Iyer’s composure and praised his exquisite third-man shot off Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling.
“Iyer took Delhi to the final, then was dropped. He lifted the trophy for Kolkata, then was dropped again. Now, he’s taken Punjab to the final after 11 years. He surely deserves the title this time.
On the other hand, Kohli has been consistently brilliant, scoring thousands of runs year after year. The title is the only thing missing from his legacy. He deserves it too.
Whatever the outcome, it will be heartbreaking for one of them.”

Rajamouli’s balanced perspective highlights the emotional stakes for both teams, especially for icons like Virat Kohli and the resilient Shreyas Iyer.
Meanwhile, Rajamouli is currently working on India’s most ambitious film project—an epic action-adventure drama starring superstar Mahesh Babu. The film, which also features global icon Priyanka Chopra in a pivotal role, is expected to be a visual spectacle and is slated for release in 2027. Filming is underway at a rapid pace.
