Telangana Heat Wave Warning: Summer has made its presence felt, and Telangana is preparing for a record day temperature, with weathermen predicting a record all-time high in May. Predictions provided by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) are set for a gloomy summer in the state.
Telangana day temperatures are already oscillating between 38°C and 42°C for various districts. Metro cities such as Hyderabad are seeing temperatures of around 38°C. While northern districts such as Adilabad, Nizamabad, and Karimnagar already see temperatures of more than 40°C. Meteorologists expect these levels to rise by 2°C to 3°C in the next few weeks, with some places likely to reach 44°C to 46°C by May.
Temperature rise is caused by the predominance of hot north winds that are slowly displacing the easterlies bearing water from the Bay of Bengal. The change in wind direction combined with local warming of the air will tend to increase the heat. Although periodic light rain and thunder showers have been giving temporary relief. These will tend to reduce as summer wears on.
IMD has predicted a heatwave in almost all districts and asked people to take protective measures. People are asked to remain indoors between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. The time when it is hottest, and to consume water. The government is also stressing the use of light clothing and protective gear such as sunhats and sunscreens.
