Director YVS Chowdary: There is deep sadness in the house of renowned director YVS Chowdary. His mother, Yalamanchili Ratnakumari (88), passed away on Thursday (September 25) night. She had been suffering from age-related health issues. The director shared the news on social media, recalling his bond and cherished memories with her.
“My mother raised me without any money.”
Ratnakumari was a woman of strength. With the modest monthly income of my father, Yalamanchili Narayana Rao, who worked as a lorry driver, she provided nutritious food, clothing, a rented home, education, and medical care for her three children. She also showed us movies from a distance, took us to temples, prepared seasonal pindivantas, stored greens, made special dishes for festivals, and managed celebrations with care. Without ever letting us feel any shortage, she expertly managed the household budget with her own calculations.

What inspired us
Our mother always woke up early in the morning with the desire to give her children a life without depending on maids. She was an ideal woman who dedicated her entire life to raising us on her own. The knowledge she had, the way she raised us, cannot be learned from any school or training. She inspired us through her actions and her way of life.
Ratnakumari (88) passed away on September 25, 2025, at 8:31 pm. Chowdary wrote on Instagram that his mother had “gone to meet her father and brother in heaven.”
