War 2: Jr NTR Craze Fuels Telugu Market Frenzy for Action Sequel

War 2: Jr NTR Craze Fuels Telugu Market Frenzy for Action Sequel

War 2: Jr NTR War 2, the action-packed sequel to the 2019 smasher War, will arrive in theaters on August 14, 2025, just ahead of India’s Independence Day. Like the original film, War 2 will be directed by Ayan Mukerji, and it will be produced by Yash Raj Films (YRF). War 2 stars Hrithik Roshan with Telugu superstar NTR Jr., whose debut in the YRF Spy Universe has gone nuclear, especially in the Telugu-speaking audience.

YRF to Self-Release in Andhra and Telangana

In another first, YRF has also decided to self-distribute War 2 in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana instead of simply selling rights to local distributors. This is a bold move, but it shows a great deal of confidence in the film’s regional value – all of which stems directly from the enormous popularity of NTR Jr. in the Telugu market.

East Godavari Theatrical Rights Sell for a Whopping ₹5.4 Crore

East Godavari’s theatrical rights sold for a whopping ₹5.4 crore, a remarkable figure for a non-Telugu film. This figure also highlights the strength of the expectations that are placed on NTR’s strong base of fans who continue to drive demand and create box office buzz across Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Region Rights Locked at ₹35 Crore

In Andhra Pradesh, the rights for theatrical distribution have reportedly been locked in at ₹35 crore. Thus, even though this is a Bollywood film, it falls into the category of huge native blockbusters. Clearly, this provides great insight into the star power and box office draw potential of NTR Jr.

₹90 Crore Breakeven Target in Telugu States
The Telugu version of War 2 has a breakeven figured pegged at a reported ₹90 crore. This is, again, a huge establishment of a confidence in NTR Jr. and his ability to generate huge funds at the box office, as this is a target for the few large Telugu productions.

NTR Jr. at the Centre of the Craze
Although Hrithik Roshan is a major draw in the North, in the South (and particularly the Telugu states), the push is behind NTR Jr. The fact that he is in War 2 has turned it from a big Hindi action film, into a major pan-India project and with registration for advance bookings opening soon the focus is now firmly on how this explosive North-South collaboration will perform when it opens on August 14, 2025.
