Why Chiranjeevi’s godfather can’t have a sequel?

Why Chiranjeevi’s godfather can’t have a sequel?

Mohanlal’s Malayalam blockbuster Lucifer was a major milestone in South Indian cinema. The film is released in 2019. It received immense appreciation and also inspired remakes in various languages. Among them, the Telugu adaptation titled Godfather starred megastar Chiranjeevi. But it didn’t succeed at the same level though it aimed to recreate the original’s magic.

Recently in an interview Mohanlal explained why Godfather cannot have a sequel like his upcoming L2: Empuraan. He stated, “I watched Godfather. But they altered the story. Several essential characters from Lucifer were missing in the remake. It becomes challenging for the team to create a sequel.”

A significant change in Godfather was the absence of the character played by Tovino Thomas in Lucifer. This character has a substantial role in the upcoming L2: Empuraanwhich is why a direct sequel wouldn’t be possible for the Telugu version.

Furthermore layered narrative of Lucifer got lot of scope for implementing the story but Godfather focused more on the central plot by losing some of its original complexity.

Lucifer was recently re released in theaters to refresh viewers’ memories before L2: Empuraan hits the screens on March 28. The film is srected by Prithviraj Sukumaran. The sequel has already built significant anticipation. Fans are eager to see the continuation of the gripping story.

Meanwhile Chiranjeevi’s Godfather has ensemble cast including Salman Khan, Nayanthara, Satya Dev, Puri Jagannadh and Sunil in key roles. The film is directed by Mohan Raja and is produced by R. B. Choudary and N. V. Prasad under the Konidela Production Company and the Super Good Films’ banners.

Also Chiranjeevi is soon to be seen in Viswambhara. This fantasy action drama is written and directed by Mallidi Vassishta and is produced by UV Creations. The film stars Chiranjeevi, Trisha Krishnan, Kunal Kapoor and Ashika Ranganath in key roles.
