Bengaluru Yellow Line Metro: The much-awaited Bengaluru Namma Metro Yellow Line has moved one step forward toward becoming operational. The Railway Board has finally sanctioned the rolling stock (train sets) of the line, a key milestone in metro opening operations. With this sanction, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) comes aboard to complete final checks, which are targeted to be completed by the end of May 2025.
The Yellow Line is a 19-kilometre stretch connecting R.V. Road in the south to Bommasandra in the south-eastern corridor. It will go a long way towards relieving traffic on some of Bengaluru’s most busy and industry-choked portions. Railway Board rollout is a crucial precondition prior to commencement of operational trials and public services.
The locomotives to be used on this route have also been subjected to intensive testing and have carried out trial runs over the past few months. The clearance dictates that the locomotives fulfill safety and technical requirements of Indian Railways and now fulfill the criteria for final inspection and commissioning.
The other key milestone to the Yellow Line induction is the CMRS inspection. It will be conducted during the last week of May. The CMRS will examine the safety equipment of the line, signaling systems, rolling stock performance, and station preparedness. After finding everything satisfactory, a certificate of safety clearance will be issued to facilitate passenger service induction.
Once it is operational, Yellow Line will carry thousands of daily commuters, primarily workers of the Electronic City zone. Yellow Line will also be integrated with other metro lines and transport systems to provide easy connectivity in the city.
