Monsoon season in India breathes life to the land, fills rivers, and the eyes of nature takes on a distinctively fresh green charm. As beautiful as the rain makes everything look, it can also mean destruction and danger especially in a select few travel hotspots. If you are planning a trip to India during the rainy season, it is critical to know which places to stay away from. 1. Mandi, Himachal Pradesh


Situated in the hills of Himachal Pradesh, Mandi works fine when there is no rain. This picturesque scenic city faces deadly landslides, closures of traffic routes and flash floods. Many of the main highways are closed, and vehicles become stuck for hours, and in some cases, days. Trekking is very dangerous because the risk of stranding is very high! Tourists are constantly advised not to visit Mandi between the months of July and September.

 

2. Munnar, Kerala

Darjeeling is a popular hillstation known for its tea and toy train. However, once monsoon rolls around, the region is affected by landslides and constant rainfall. Roads get washed away and the train service is often cancelled. The fog is so thick there is little visibility, and most tourist spots remain closed. Often power cuts and network issues also arise making the tourists visit unpleasant.

 

5. Coorg, Karnataka
Coorg, also known as Kodagu, is a lovely hill station in Karnataka. Coorg is vulnerable to heavy rainfall during the monsoon, which impacts the local area. Rivers flood, bridges collapse, and landslides block roads. In recent years, tourists have found themselves stranded, as a result of excessive flooding. It may not look like it, but Coorg is not a destination to visit in the monsoon season.

 

6. Mussoorie, Uttarakhand
Mussoorie, the “Queen of Hills” is amazing but dangerous when the rain is heavy. The winding roads in the mountains, which are dangerous in wet conditions, could be a disaster. Roads are blocked due to landslides, trees fall, and roads can easily be blocked. In a remote area, the service could be slow to respond. Travellers may find themselves stuck in their hotels or on the other side of rivers or by landslides that cut them off.
