Train Ticket Booking Rule: Indian Railways will require Aadhaar identification for general reserved ticket bookings made online via the IRCTC website or app within the first fifteen minutes of reservations opening on October 1, 2025. At the moment, only Tatkal reservations are subject to this restriction.
Here’s how it works:
First 15 mins: Only Aadhaar-authenticated users can book
After 15 mins: Open for all registered users
PRS Counters: No change
Agents still face a 10-minute restriction for Tatkal
Why Aadhaar Authentication?
This rule’s main objective is to prevent ticket touting and guarantee that tickets are purchased by actual passengers. Indian Railways hopes to decrease bulk bookings for resale at exorbitant costs and guarantee a more seamless, transparent booking experience by limiting early online reservations to individuals who have been authenticated by Aadhaar. In simpler words, Aadhaar authentication will stop ticket touting and prevent bulk resale. This also ensures genuine passengers get tickets.
