Satna and Datia Airports: Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated two airports in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday to boost regional connectivity across the country. Through the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme, the government aims to extend the benefits of air travel to the Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand regions by launching the newly built Satna Airport and the upgraded Datia Airport.
The government plans to connect the historic towns of Satna and Datia to the national aviation network through these airports. In a statement, officials said they expect the operationalization of Satna and Datia Airports to bring significant economic and social benefits, such as improved connectivity, the creation of both direct and indirect jobs, and the growth of related industries, including retail, hospitality, healthcare, and education.
Satna Airport:
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) invested ₹36.96 crore to develop Satna Airport, aiming to establish it as a major regional hub in northeastern Madhya Pradesh. The 768-square-meter terminal can handle up to 2.5 lakh passengers annually and 50 passengers during peak hours.
Known for its industrial and cultural importance, Satna will now offer improved access to key industrial and religious destinations like Maihar and Chitrakoot through the new airport. AAI equipped the airport with modern passenger amenities, a recarpeted runway, apron facilities for Dornier-228 aircraft, and dedicated infrastructure such as a fire station and ATC tower.
They also integrated eco-friendly features, including solar-powered streetlights, 100% LED lighting, and horticulture sustained by treated water.
