Samruddhi Expressway: The Mumbai-Nagpur expressway became fully operational on Thursday with the opening of the final section of the 701-kilometer Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, stretching between Igatpuri in Nashik district and Amane in Thane district. Furthermore, to boost the route’s economic impact, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently announced plans to connect the expressway to the upcoming Vadhavan Port in Palghar district. However, some questions remain for drivers planning to use the expressway: What are the toll charges? And where do travelers from Mumbai enter?
Mumbai To Nagpur In 7 Hours:
The high-speed Samruddhi Expressway, travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur to just seven hours. Additionally, the journey between Amane and Igatpuri now takes only forty minutes. The project, which cost Rs 55,335 crore, involved acquiring approximately 8,800 hectares of land from nearly 24,000 farmers across ten districts.
Entry Points for Mumbaikars:
The expressway begins in the Thane district, which lies just over two hours from Mumbai, near Amane. Instead of tackling the difficult Kasara Ghat ascent on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway, travelers can access the highway at Ghoti and take a new route with only a 160-meter elevation climb. Meanwhile, commuters from Mumbai and Navi Mumbai can reach the nearest Samruddhi Mahamarg entrance in Bhiwandi, near Shangri-La Water Park, via the existing Mumbai-Nashik Highway. Additionally, the Maharashtra government has proposed widening a crucial 23-kilometer stretch from Thane to Vadape, close to the highway’s entrance, to eight lanes.
Toll Charges:
The state’s Public Works Department (PWD) said on June 4 that the toll rates will rise in two stages, with the first going into effect on April 1, 2025, and the second starting on April 1, 2028. The last hike will take effect in April 2031 and last until December 10, 2032.
