Upcoming Metro Projects 2025: India’s cities grew at astounding rates and are presently growing at a brisk pace. Hence, managing traffic congestion and pollution has now become a major challenge. For the past several years, metro systems have been seen to be one of the most sustainable and efficient solutions. The year 2025 will be a most-looked-forward-to year, with many major metro projects being launched for transformation in urban transport across the country.
The Patna Metro is almost ready to start services. With a tentative date for commissioning of the priority Blue Line corridor in August 2025. About 32 kilometers long in Phase 1, the Blue Line is expected to ease the movement in the busiest state capitals of India. In the same way, Bhopal Metro (Bhoj Metro) is also expected to start Phase 1 operations by September 2025, providing about 28 km of much-needed connectivity in the city.
The Indore Metro has already inaugurated 6 km of operations in May 2025. And intends to extend its operations further by early 2026. This metro would connect major business and residential parts when completed. The Meerut Metro has the advantage of synchronizing with the Delhi–Meerut RRTS and is looking to operationalize Phase I by mid-2025, ensuring unhindered connectivity from the regional cities to the capital of the nation.
Expecting the first metro services to begin in June 2025, Surat is addressing two corridors in the 37.6 km length. For the Pink Line (Line 6) in Mumbai, intended to be completed by December 2025. It connects Lokhandwala with Vikhroli, further integrating this part of the city’s dense suburb.
The Delhi Metro Phase V proposal intends to bring in new corridors exceeding 200 km in length with four fresh lines and multiple extensions. This will redefine public transport for the capital region.
