After 17 years, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is making a grand comeback with a brand new season. Starting 3 July 2025, the show brings back Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay as the beloved Tulsi and Mihir Virani.
Back in the 2000s, the show became a part of daily life in many households. Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms produced the original series, which aired from 2000 to 2008. With over 1,800 episodes, it reshaped Indian television and topped TRP charts for years.
Now, the makers aim to recreate that magic with a fresh 150-episode season.
This time, the story focuses on how Tulsi and Mihir’s bond has grown with time. Instead of repeating the past, the writers have crafted new narratives for the next generation of the Virani family.
Moreover, the production team has upgraded the set design and wardrobe to suit modern tastes. According to Amar Upadhyay, “We’ve written every episode with extra care to connect with today’s audience.”
Fortunately, many familiar faces are also coming back. Actors like Hiten Tejwani, Gauri Pradhan, and Shakti Anand will reprise their roles. Their return adds depth and nostalgia, blending old memories with new drama.

Although Amar Upadhyay acknowledges that digital platforms dominate now, he believes this show can change that. He said, “People might return to their living rooms and enjoy TV as a family again.”
In fact, the success of shows like Anupamaa proves that television still holds emotional value, especially in smaller towns.
During its first run, the show made history. When Mihir’s character died in 2001, fans protested. As a result, the producers brought him back, a moment that recorded TRPs as high as 22.4.
Clearly, the connection with viewers hasn’t faded. Even Gen Z audiences have explored the show through reruns.
Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Season 2 is more than just a reboot. It’s a chance to relive the golden era of Indian television is starting this 3 July
