Indiramma Housing in Telangana: The Telangana government has decided to assign private engineers for Indiramma Housing Scheme inspections. The Housing Department lacks sufficient staff, making outsourcing necessary.
Telangana’s Housing Department faces a serious staff shortage. To manage inspections, the government will recruit 390 engineers through outsourcing. Manpower suppliers have been given the task of handling this recruitment.
The government has released a notification for this recruitment. Applications will be accepted until the 11th of this month. Selected candidates will work as Assistant Engineers under a one-year contract. They will start their duties within the next two to three weeks. The monthly salary for these engineers is ₹33,800.
Earlier, the Housing Department had enough government engineers. During YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s tenure as Chief Minister, the government constructed a large number of Indiramma houses. Since the department needed more engineers at that time, some were recruited through outsourcing.
After Telangana’s formation, the government removed outsourced engineers and discontinued the Indiramma Housing Scheme. The Housing Department eventually became inactive and merged with the Roads and Buildings Department. Engineers from the Housing Corporation were transferred to other departments, leaving no dedicated staff for housing projects.
The government has now restarted large-scale construction under the Indiramma Housing Scheme. Some engineers from different departments have been reassigned to the Housing Corporation. Currently, 125 engineers are working in the department.
Although the Housing Corporation has approval for 505 Assistant Engineers, only 125 positions are filled. The remaining positions should be filled through Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) recruitment but the process has not started yet.
Uncertainty Over TSPSC Recruitment
The TSPSC was expected to include Housing Department vacancies in its recent recruitment notification. But the government did not provide the required details, so these positions were not included in the latest Group exams.
Many believe the government plans to continue relying on outsourced engineers instead of hiring permanent staff. For now, the department will manage inspections through outsourcing. But it remains unclear when or if permanent recruitment will happen.
