World’s Highest Railway Arch Bridge: On Friday, June 6, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened the Chenab Rail Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir, the highest railway arch bridge in the world and a significant milestone in India’s railway network. Enhancing rail communication in the area, particularly between Jammu and Srinagar, is another important improvement brought forth by this event.
Top 5 Highlights About Chenab Bridge:
1. The highest railway arch bridge in the world: The bridge is 359 meters above the Chenab River, higher than the Eiffel Tower. It is 1,315 meters long and is intended to be a steel arch bridge.
2. Engineering achievement: Constructed to withstand intense seismic activity and strong winds, the bridge is a modern engineering marvel in one of India’s most difficult terrains.
3. Connectivity: The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project depends heavily on the bridge. It will drastically cut the duration of the Vande Bharat trains’ journey between Katra and Srinagar to roughly three hours.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also inaugurate the Anji Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge. This bridge will serve one of the most vital railway stretches in the country. The project cost for both bridges totals approximately ₹43,780 crores.
