Air India Flight Emergency Landing in Thailand: In a spine-chilling twist in the aftermath of the tragic Air India flight AI171 crash at Ahmedabad that had resulted in 241 deaths, the airline encountered yet another crisis. This time, a bomb threat on a Delhi-Bangkok flight. The episode led to an emergency landing in Thailand, with new waves of apprehension sweeping over passengers and aviation officials alike.
On June 17, 2025, an Air India Boeing 787 flight from Delhi to Bangkok had to make an emergency landing at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport when during the flight an anonymous bomb threat was received. The crew acted on standard safety procedures and informed the authorities promptly.
After landing, the plane was shifted to a secluded bay and all the 230 passengers and 10 crew were evacuated safely. Thai security personnel along with a bomb squad extensively searched the plane and baggage. Fortunately, nothing explosive was detected, and the scare was proved to be a hoax.
Travelers, who were in shock at the news of the Ahmedabad plane crash, described times of sheer panic. Many thought that this was it, given the recent upsurge in aviation-related accidents with Air India.
“After learning about Ahmedabad, a bomb threat during our flight was frightening. But the crew performed excellently,” said a passenger.
Air India has affirmed the bomb threat and said it is cooperating in its entirety with Thai and Indian security officials to investigate the origin of the threat. A complete internal investigation of the incident is also being conducted.
The airline has emphasized that passenger safety remains a top priority. Following this and the Ahmedabad tragedy, Air India is reportedly conducting a comprehensive review of its security and emergency procedures.
