After Thailand and Myanmar: 3 earthquakes hit THIS country

On March 28, a terrible earthquake wreaked havoc in Thailand and Myanmar. Thousands of people lost their lives, and the exact number of injured is not yet known. Meanwhile, the earth shook due to an earthquake in Nevada, USA. People there are scared of this. This earthquake occurred on Monday. 3 earthquakes occurred one after the other, which has spread panic among the people. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), there is a 27% chance of another earthquake of magnitude 3.0 or greater in the region during the next week. 3 earthquakes hit this country after major earthquake attacks on Thailand and Myanmar.

When did the earthquake occur?

According to the Nevada Seismology Laboratory at the University of Reno, the largest earthquake occurred at 12:28 pm, about 50 miles northwest of Carlin, 71 miles east and northeast of Winnemucca, and 32 miles north of Battle Mountain. The USGS recorded the first earthquake, which had a magnitude of 3.4, at 8:03 am. This was followed by a magnitude 2.6 quake at 12:24 p.m., followed just four minutes later by a magnitude 4.0 quake. Why does this region of the U.S. get more earthquakes?

Northern Nevada, particularly the Great Basin region, where these earthquakes occurred, is known for its seismic activity. The region lies on several active fault lines, including the Fairview Peak-Dixie Valley Fault Scarps and the Central Nevada Seismic Belt. Additionally, the epicenter of the recent earthquake, Valmy, lies along the Pleasant Valley Fault, which is capable of producing earthquakes up to magnitude 7.7.

What are other causes of earthquakes?

The region’s geologic instability is caused by active crustal stretching, fault movement, and occasional deep fluid activity. In addition, mining operations in the area can sometimes trigger seismic events. Nevada is the third most seismically active state in the US, after California and Alaska.
