Ahmedabad plane crash:
The Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025, is a tragedy that has shocked the country. The incident happened soon after the London-bound flight took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport in Ahmedabad. The aircraft fell and crashed into a medical hostel near BJ Medical College. It caused a huge fire and heavy damage.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is investigating the incident. Expert teams from the UK and the US are helping. They aim to uncover the cause and make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Prime Minister Modi visited the crash site on Friday. He met injured people in the hospital. Modi held a high-level meeting with officials, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and other leaders. The meeting was to oversee rescue operations and provide support to victims’ families.
A total of 260 people are feared dead — 230 passengers and 12 crew members. There’s only a single survivor. NDRF Inspector Vinay Kumar said his team recovered 81 bodies. At least 50 injured people are currently receiving treatment in nearby hospitals.
Eyewitnesses described a massive fireball and thick black smoke after the collision. The temperature near the site rose to nearly 1,000 degrees. This made rescue operations difficult.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting with Gujarat’s Chief Minister and other officials. The government is making sure injured people get proper care. Financial assistance is also being provided to victims’ families.
The Tata Group, which owns Air India, is offering a compensation of ₹1 crore to each family who lost a member in the tragedy. A phone helpline — 1800 5691 444 — is available for worried relatives and friends.
A high-level expert team is investigating all possible reasons for the incident. The DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) ordered extensive safety checks for Air India’s Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft. This includes a detailed inspection of cabin air compressors, electronic engine controls, and related systems.
Recovering the black box is a major step forward in understanding what went wrong. This data is expected to aid investigators in their search for answers. Messages of condolences continue to come in from all over the world.
