Air India Confirms 241 Dead in AI171 Crash: Only One Survivor

AI171 Crash: It was a horrific air disaster, said Air India, in which 241 of the 242 on board flight AI171 perished. The plane was flying from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick and crashed just after take-off on 12 June 2025, one of India’s most disastrous air tragedies.


Details of the Flight

The ill-fated flight was a 12-year-old Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that had taken off from Ahmedabad at 1:38 PM IST. It had 230 passengers and 12 crew members, which included 242 people on board.

Tragically, the aircraft crashed just seconds after flying after takeoff, killing 241 en route. One passenger, a British citizen of Indian origin, survived and is now receiving treatment in a local hospital.

Victims of this tragedy were from countries of different nationality:

169 Indian nationals

53 British nationals

7 Portuguese nationals

1 Canadian national

Air India Offers Condolences and Assistance

Air India made a statement saying that it has great sympathy and condolences to the families of the deceased. The focus now is to assist the families impacted by the tragedy, including medical, emotional, and logistical support.

A team has also been sent to Ahmedabad to assist with the recovery and relief for the families affected. The airline will continue to cooperate with the applicable authorities that you are involved with while maintaining its support for the families.
