Airtel Partners With Elon Musk SpaceX To Bring Starlink Internet In India.

Bharti Airtel partners with Elon Musk SpaceX unite to bring Starlink’s high-speed internet services to its users in India. In a major announcement, Airtel said that this partnership intends to extend connectivity to rural India and support schools, businesses, and communities. However, Starlink needs to get the required approvals from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Ministry of Home Affairs before it starts its operations in India.

Airtel said in a statement that this is the first agreement to be signed in India, which is subject to SpaceX receiving its own authorizations to sell Starlink in India. “Airtel and SpaceX will explore offering Starlink equipment in Airtel’s retail stores, Starlink services via Airtel to business customers, opportunities to connect communities, schools, and health centers, among many others, in even the most rural parts of India”, Airtel further added.

Gopal Vittal, Managing Director and Vice Chairman, Bharti Airtel Ltd also said “Working with SpaceX to offer Starlink to Airtel customers in India is a significant milestone and further demonstrates our commitment to next-generation satellite connectivity.”

Gwynne Shotwell, President and Chief Operating Officer of SpaceX, applauded how Airtel played a pivotal role in India’s telecom segment and SpaceX collaborating with Airtel in its direct offering makes great sense for the business.
“We are excited to work with Airtel and unlock the transformative impact Starlink can bring to the people of India. We are constantly amazed by the incredible and inspiring things that people, businesses and organizations do when they are connected via Starlink,” Gwynne Shotwell said.

Currently, Mukesh Abani’s Jio leads the Indian broadband market. While Jio has 500 million users, Airtel’s user base is nearly 300 million. Will Airtel dominate Jio or lose customers to Starlink? It is yet to be revealed.
