Child Education Support: The TDP-led NDA government in Andhra Pradesh has launched the ‘Talliki Vandanam’ initiative, which offers Rs 15,000 per year for each school-age child in a household, a senior official announced on Friday. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu included this scheme as part of his ‘Super Six’ welfare promises during the 2024 election campaign.

“The government has issued implementation guidelines for the ‘Talliki Vandanam’ scheme,” said Kona Sasidhar, Secretary to the Government. “Through this key initiative, we aim to empower mothers and guardians across the state by providing financial assistance of Rs 15,000 annually per eligible child.”

The government will offer the program to all qualifying households, regardless of how many children they have enrolled in Class I through Intermediate schools. According to the statement, officials will also factor in the projected number of eligible students enrolled in junior intermediate and Class I programs. The ‘Talliki Vandanam’ scheme will benefit 43 lakh mothers and over 67 lakh students. From the Rs 15,000 granted annually, the government will directly deduct Rs 2,000 to fund improvements in the state’s overall educational ecosystem, including maintenance, sanitation, and cleanliness.

The secretary stated that the program aims to increase accessibility and inclusivity while ensuring equal opportunities and better learning outcomes.

He emphasized that the scheme empowers mothers to take an active role in their children’s education from Class I to Class XII, recognizing their crucial influence on academic progress. Sasidhar confirmed that all eligible children would benefit from the program and added that junior colleges, government schools, and both private aided and unaided schools would participate.

The state government has set a deadline from June 12 to July 5 to complete the scheme’s full implementation and disbursement. By rolling out ‘Talliki Vandanam’, which it describes as the “mother of all welfare schemes”, the government not only aims to support families but also focuses on demographic management in response to a declining population.
