Covid Death in Vizag:
A 64-year-old man in Visakhapatnam tested positive for Covid-19 and later passed away while receiving treatment. However, health officials clarified that his death was not caused by the virus but due to other health problems.
The man, who lived in HB Colony, was admitted to a private hospital near the government guest house three days before his death. He was suffering from pneumonia, high blood pressure, diabetes, and Parkinson’s disease. As part of routine checks, a private lab conducted a Covid-19 test, which came back positive.
On Thursday morning at 7:41 AM, his health condition worsened, and he died at the hospital. His last rites were performed at the Gnanapuram crematorium. Soon after the news of his death, rumors spread that it was the first Covid-related death in the city. However, Dr. P. Jagadishwara Rao, the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), released a statement to clear the confusion.
He explained that for a death to be confirmed as caused by Covid-19, the RT-PCR test conducted at the VDRL laboratory in Visakhapatnam’s King George Hospital (KGH) must return positive. In this case, no such confirmation was made. So, the death cannot be officially declared as due to the virus.
As of now, there are only three reported Covid-19 cases in the city. Two previous cases were from Pithapuram Colony, and those patients have since recovered.
This incident reminds us to stay alert and not spread misinformation. Health officials are taking necessary steps to monitor and control the situation. It is also important for the public to rely on official statements and not believe in rumors.
While the man did test positive for Covid-19, his death was due to other serious health conditions. There is no officially confirmed Covid-19 death in Visakhapatnam as of now.
