Australian Journalist: A rubber bullet hit an Australian journalist while she covered anti-immigration protests in Los Angeles, California. The incident happened live on camera and quickly went viral. The footage showed Lauren Tomasi, a Nine News US correspondent, getting shot in the leg during a live broadcast on Sunday.
In the video, Ms. Tomasi says, “After hours of standing off, this situation has now rapidly deteriorated. The LAPD is moving in on horseback, firing rubber bullets at protesters, pushing them through the heart of LA.” A bystander can be heard shouting at police in the background, “You just fucking shot the reporter!”

Tensions rose in Los Angeles on Sunday as thousands of protesters flooded the streets. The unrest followed U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to take federal control of California’s state military. He also ordered troops into the nation’s second-largest city. California Governor Gavin Newsom called the move “purposefully inflammatory.” U.S. media described the action as unprecedented in decades.

Police Statements:
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) declared the entire Downtown Los Angeles area an unlawful assembly. In a notice posted on X, the police ordered, “You are to leave the Downtown area immediately.” Security forces rode horses through the streets and guarded government buildings in full riot gear. Meanwhile, President Trump ordered the immediate arrest of protesters wearing masks.
This crackdown followed two days of violent clashes. Federal officers used tear gas and flash-bang grenades against crowds protesting the detention of dozens of migrants in a mostly Latino neighborhood. Since taking office in January, President Trump has aggressively enforced his pledge to restrict the entry and presence of undocumented migrants. He has publicly referred to them as “monsters” and “animals.”
