Bengaluru FIR Over Women’s Metro Pics on Instagram

Bengaluru: After it was discovered that a social media account posted pictures of female travelers on Bengaluru’s metro rail system without their permission, a formal complaint was filed against unidentified individuals.

Following public outcry over an Instagram account sharing unsolicited photos of ladies riding the Namma Metro, the FIR was filed. Before being investigated, the page, which went by the handle “Bangalore Metro Chicks,” had more than 5,000 followers. All images have been removed from the Instagram account in the wake of the outcry and the ensuing FIR.

Police said the alleged photos were taken inside metro platforms and coaches. The women in the pictures don’t appear to have known they were being photographed or to have consented in any way for their pictures to be used.

When a user on the social media site X (previously Twitter) flagged the account and tagged Bengaluru City Police, calling for prompt action, the problem initially came to light. In response, the police independently noted the case.
