Burhan Wani Era is Over: Pakistan’s Covert War Shifts to Jungle Warfare

Burhan Wani Era

The recent terror attack in Pahalgam in South Kashmir has brought attention to a dangerous pattern of militancy. Unlike previous militant leaders such as Burhan Wani, the current group is hiding in the forests. They appear to be highly trained and well-equipped. These terrorists have been hiding in the dense forests for over a week, avoiding capture despite a large-scale search by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Burhan Wani Era

Security officials believe that these militants are not just locals but could include members of the Pakistani Army or ex-soldiers. Their skills in jungle warfare, their ability to survive in harsh conditions without any local support, and their use of advanced weapons and communication devices suggest military-level training. According to intelligence reports, these terrorists have been living and moving in the forests of South Kashmir for nearly four years.

This marks a shift from the earlier style of militancy that was more visible and less disciplined. Back in 2015, militants like Burhan Wani often posted pictures online and were easy for security forces to trace. In contrast, the current group is avoiding all publicity and focusing on survival and tactical advantage.

One of the key concerns is the kind of weapons these terrorists are using. Reports mention that at least one of them has an M4 carbine rifle, which can fire up to 900 rounds per minute. These weapons allow them to attack from long distances, making it difficult for security forces to engage them in close combat.

The militants are using forest areas stretching from Jammu’s Kathua district to South Kashmir as a safe passage. They are believed to be familiar with the tough terrain and extreme weather, which helps them stay hidden and mobile.

Security experts say this is the first time in decades that they are facing such intense guerrilla warfare in Kashmir. The operation in Pahalgam is still ongoing, and the situation remains tense.
