Chinese women buy ‘Man Mums’ hugs for Rs 600 for comfort

Man Mums: Young women in China increasingly pay about 50 yuan (around 600 Rs) to so-called “man mums” for five-minute hugs. The term “man mums,” originally coined for muscular males, now describes individuals who offer reassuring, stress-relieving embraces prized for their warmth and kindness. These sponsored hugs deliver emotional support during challenging moments, with clients scheduling them via messaging apps and meeting in public spaces like shopping malls or train stations.

Media sources report that the phrase initially described muscular gym-goers but now applies to men who blend physical strength with stereotypically feminine traits like patience and compassion.

Local Citizen Statement:

Recently, a stressed-out student posted online that she needed to pay for a hug from a nice, healthy “man mum” to cope with her thesis strain. “I felt secure after receiving a hug once in high school. We can simply share a five-minute embrace at a subterranean station,” she added. After going viral, the post garnered over 100,000 comments. More posts from women in big cities seeking to pay for hugs emerge when you search “man mum” on social media. They often communicate privately before meeting, choosing such men based on appearance, patience, body type, and manners. Local sources confirm that some tall, athletic women also join the consideration.

Prices for Hugs:

The majority of hugs take place in public settings, including shopping malls or subway stations, and cost between 20 and 50 yuan (Rs 250 and Rs 600). After three hours of overtime, one lady claimed to have located a man, her mother, who gave her a three-minute hug and a gentle shoulder pat as she complained about her employer.
