Cockroach Coffee: A museum in Beijing has introduced a bizarre new coffee flavor that is now going viral. This unusual drink is made using cockroach powder and dried mealworms, mixed into regular coffee. People online are stunned not only by the ingredients but also by the price – 45 yuan (around ₹570) for a single cup. Many who tried it say the taste is similar to burnt beans with a slightly sour note.
A New Coffee Trend:
This roach-infused coffee is served at a café inside an insect museum in Beijing. Although it was launched last year, it recently became popular again after a video of it went viral. The café is known for experimenting with insect-based drinks, and this cockroach coffee has quickly become a favorite among curious young customers.
Inspired by Traditional Medicine:
According to the museum staff, they sell more than 10 cups of this coffee every day. They also explained that all the ingredients, including the insect powders, are sourced from traditional Chinese medicine shops. In Chinese medicine, cockroach powder is believed to improve blood circulation, while protein-rich yellow mealworms are thought to boost immunity.

More Insects on the Menu:
With the success of cockroach coffee, the café is now trying out more insect-based drinks. The museum’s Pitcher Plant café even offers seasonal items like ant-infused juices, which were sold during Halloween. Customers say the ant drink tastes sour, while the Pitcher Plant version tastes more like regular coffee.
A Growing Trend in China:
Unusual coffee experiments are becoming popular across China. Earlier this year, a café in Yunnan created a coffee topped with deep-fried worms, and another in Jiangxi served lattes mixed with fried chilies and hot pepper powder. The new cockroach coffee continues this trend, blending Chinese culture with shocking flavor combinations.
