The spread of Covid, which started slowly from the first week of May, increased significantly by the end of May: While there were 257 active cases in the country on May 22, this number reached 1,010 on May 26. However, it is noteworthy that it reached almost 3,400 by June 1 within a week.

Cases are increasing slightly in states like Rajasthan (60), Puducherry (41), Andhra Pradesh (17) and Madhya Pradesh (16).
According to ICMR Director General Dr. Rajiv Bahl, the reason for the increase in corona cases in the country is the new variants . He said that LF.7, XFG, JN.1, NB.1.8.1 new variants are present in the country. JN 1, NB 1.8.1 are currently under the surveillance of the World Health Organization (WHO). He said that these variants started in South and West India and are now spreading towards the North.
However, there is no need to worry about the cases at present. But, he advised to be vigilant. ‘”Although these variants spread quickly, cases with mild symptoms are more common. There is no need to worry much as infections are currently low. However, it is important to be vigilant,’ he said. The World Health Organization has identified the LF.7, NB.1.8.1 variants as those that need to be monitored.
So far, there is no evidence that these variants cause more severe disease. Current vaccines are also effective against these variants,’ the WHO said. However, experts suggest wearing masks, washing hands frequently, the elderly and those with chronic health problems to be more careful, and getting tested immediately if they have symptoms. Even if the Covid outbreak is not severe this time, it is key to follow general precautions keeping in mind the experiences of new variants in the past. The government and health systems are continuing to monitor. Public cooperation is essential, There is no need to panic. But don’t be lazy!’ said ICMR Director Dr. Bahl.
