Dating App Scam: A businessman from Noida has fallen victim to a massive online scam losing ₹6.5 crore after being deceived by a woman he met on a dating app. The woman lured him into investing in a fake trading platform promising high returns.
In December 2024, Daljeet Singh who is a businessman from Noida’s Sector-36 met a woman named Anita Chauhan through a dating app. They started communicating regularly and she soon convinced him to invest in an online trading platform. She assured him that he could earn huge profits even without prior trading experience.
Daljeet initially invested ₹3.2 lakh and soon received a profit of ₹24,000. This small gain built his trust, and he continued investing larger amounts over time. Within a few months, he transferred a total of ₹6.52 crore to different bank accounts linked to the scam. The woman even persuaded him to take a loan of ₹2 crore for more investments.
Daljeet became suspicious when he tried to withdraw his money from the trading platform, SpreadMKT and Spprecdex.cc. The platform demanded a 30% security fee and an additional ₹61 lakh as an exchange service fee. Realizing he had been scammed, he immediately reported the fraud to the cybercrime police in Delhi.
Cybercrime DCP Preeti Yadav stated that they are investigating the case from all angles. The police are tracing the transactions and have sought details from the banks. Further investigation revealed that the woman’s profile was fake. The police are now working on identifying the scammers and recovering the lost money.

This incident marks the increasing number of online scams through dating and trading apps. Scammers use emotional manipulation and financial fraud to trick victims. Authorities advise people to be cautious while making online investments and never trust strangers with large sums of money.
