Delhi Rains: On Wednesday evening, the weather in Delhi-NCR abruptly changed after many days of intense heat with highs of over 40°C. The national capital and surrounding areas had heavy rain, hailstorms, and strong winds, which provided relief but also resulted in traffic bottlenecks, tree falls, and waterlogging.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s (DMRC) Yellow Line commuters were left stranded for hours as a result of the disruption in flight operations at the Delhi airport.
Delhi Rains – Roads Flooded:
Meanwhile, commuters and locals were inconvenienced by waterlogging that was also seen in several locations throughout the city, such as under the Tilak Bridge near ITO, near the Akshardham Flyover, and Sikandra Road. Strong winds and a dust storm were caused by a cloud mass that drifted south-southeastward from North Delhi, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The abrupt change in weather followed exceptionally hot and muggy conditions in the nation’s capital, where high humidity and strong sunshine caused the heat index to rise to 50.2 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department reports that the maximum temperature on Wednesday was 40.7 degrees Celsius, 0.5 degrees higher than the typical average, and that the humidity ranged from 34% to 64%.
