ChatGPT Exposed Scammer: By utilizing ChatGPT to build a false payment page that included the scammer’s location and photo, a Delhi resident turned the tables on a cybercriminal and made a dramatic plea for compassion. Due to its peculiar twist, the entire episode, which was published through a thorough Reddit post, has now gone viral.

How did Scammer Fall into a Trap?
The affair started when an IAS officer posing as the man’s former college senior sent him a message on Facebook. The impostor claimed that a friend of theirs who was in the CRPF was being moved and needed to sell furniture and appliances for extremely low prices. Since his true senior already had his direct number, the Delhi resident became suspicious. He chose to carry on the conversation to expose the scammer after confirming that the account was fraudulent.

Later, the scammer called him from a new number, showed him a picture of his army profile, and demanded that he pay using a QR code. While scanning it, the Delhi guy pretended to be experiencing technical difficulties to buy time for a counterattack.

ChatGPT for Scammer Trap:
He created a basic webpage using ChatGPT during this interval that could gather a user’s GPS coordinates and take a picture using the device’s front camera. He said that adding the QR code there will expedite the payment procedure after hosting the page and giving the fraudster the link.

The scammer clicked the link after falling for the ruse. In a matter of seconds, the webpage captured his precise location, IP address, and a crisp picture of his face.

Scammer Begs After Being Exposed:
Equipped with this knowledge, the resident of Delhi emailed the con artist his own picture and geographical information. The fraudster became terrified due to the unexpected exposure. He started sending frantic messages right away, pleading for pardon and vowing to stop his fraudulent operations. “Used ChatGPT to locate a scammer and made him beg me” was the description for screenshots of the conversation that the man later shared on Reddit.

Adding to that, he also wrote, “Scammer tried running an Army transfer/cheap goods scam while impersonating a college senior, an IAS officer. Instead of paying, I used ChatGPT to quickly code a geolocation/front-camera capture link, tricked him into clicking it, and scared plus forced him to turn down the operation immediately by sending him his own photo and coordinates.”
