Actress Assault Case: Over the years, the actress assault case, one of the most keenly followed legal disputes in the Malayalam film industry, involved several dramatic turns. One of such aspects was the number of persons who changed their statements during the course of the investigation or the trial. Such changes created public skepticism, raised questions about possible external influence, and intensified discussions over the hurdles that survivors face in their quest for justice.
Few of the popular faces in the Malayalam film fraternity have allegedly altered their statements or at least diluted them. Idavela Babu, Bindu Panicker, Bhama, Siddique, Nadirsha are among those who were initially mollifying to give evidence but later changed, diluted, or essentially withdrew their positions. The person who attracted much public debate is Kavya Madhavan, along with her family members including Mithun, Rhea, Shyamala, and Madhavan, all altered previous statements.
Even producers and crew members like Ranjit, Shine, and Sagar Vincent had altered their testimony, opening up further discussions of the pressures of the case.
Besides film persons, there were other categories of people also passed through the same involvement. These were Dr. Hiader Ali, he of course had his brother Salim, hotel employee Shirley Ajit, and household staff that belong to Dileep: Dasan, Usha and Nilisha-all three of whom have changed their statements about what happened.
People who were nearest to the actor, such as Anoop(brother of Dileep), his brother-in-law Suraj, and aides Appunni and Suneer, also changed versions of themselves during the investigation.
Naturally, the long name on the list is Ullas Babu, a BJP politician from Thrissur, and others who changed the statement: none other than IG Dinesan, a senior police officer, thus raising questions on the institutional consistency.
And really, the floodgates have opened about all the changes, and thus public debate has turned on the matter. Such changes, whether due to external influences, fear, or pressure differences in circumstances, have left their mark on the case narrative, and debates surrounding truth, justice, and accountability still rage in high-profile trials.
