Earthquake Hits Five Nations: Seismic waves were recorded between 1 AM and 6 AM in five nations, with the quakes ranging from 3 to 5 on the Richter scale. Locals, including some in slumber, experienced light to heavy jolts, and concerns are growing in respect of occurrence of such events increasingly.
The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) has confirmed earthquake activities in India, Tibet, Myanmar, Tajikistan, and Indonesia. No major casualties or loss of property have been reported but the recurring tremors of earthquakes in the past twelve months have kept people anxious about an even larger disaster waiting to happen in the near future.
India: At 4:46 AM, Assam had an earthquake with a 3.4 Richter scale intensity, and its epicentre was in Sonitpur, 13 km beneath the earth’s surface.
Indonesia: Seram Island had the strongest shaking with 5.5 intensity, and its epicentre was 10 km deep, as reported by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). The country has had numerous earthquakes in recent history.
Tibet: 4.1 magnitude earthquake was felt at 5:33 AM, arousing residents during morning preparations. The epicentre was 10 km beneath the Earth.
Myanmar: After the devastating earthquake of March 29, another quake struck Myanmar at 2:47 AM with 3.8 magnitude.
Tajikistan: The country had two tremors in the space of an hour when a 1:50 AM (4.2 magnitude) and later a 2:04 AM (4.0 magnitude) earthquake occurred.
Although no immediate damage has been reported yet, the frequent quivering over the past year has raised alarms among experts and locals. Experts warn that such shudders are bound to indicate tectonic movements, increasing the possibility of a huge earthquake shortly.
