Elon Musk-Owned X Sues Indian Government

Elon Musk Owned X Sues Indian Government: The world’s wealthiest man, Elon Musk company X (formerly Twitter) has filed a lawsuit in the Karnataka High Court against the Indian Government for unlawful content regulation and arbitrary censorship. It challenged how the government of India perceives Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act (IT Act). Elon Musk-owned X made serious allegations that the government is misusing the proper legal procedures and blocking content online through illegal setups.

According to the act, every platform must remove or block content when the government orders them. If not, they are likely to lose their legal protection, also called safe harbour. However, X claims that content removal or blocking is under specific reasons like protecting national security, and crucial information. On the contrary, Section 79(3)(b) has no specific rules and allows authorities to block content without any checks. X warned about widespread censorship in India.

According to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B), Section 79(3)(b) directs online platforms to remove illegal content when directed by either a court order or a government notification. Failing to do so within 36 hours, it is likely to lose safe harbor protection under Section 79(1) and could be held accountable under various laws, including the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

X is under scrutiny after the central government raised concerns about the unfiltered and sassy responses generated by its AI chatbot Grok and wants to clarify. Grok, X’s powerful AI chat bot, was buzzing on the internet recently. The bot went berserk and demonstrated its wild side with slurs and abuses.
