Ridiculous: Employee Makes HR Complaint For Not Getting Wedding Invitation Of Coworker

A woman in America detailed a bizarre workplace story on Reddit that took off and went viral.

The Wedding Invite Drama

The woman said she was planning a small wedding with only her close friends and family. One coworker who she wasn’t that close to found out about the wedding and asked if she was invited. They never spent any time together outside of work and had exchanged small talk a few times. The bride laughed and explained that it would be a private wedding with a very limited guest list. After that, the coworker became distant and cold with her.

The HR Complaint

A few days later, the bride got a meeting invite from Human Resources. She felt shocked when the coworker formally complained about her and reported the matter to HR. The complaint claimed that the bride was “exclusive” and “creating a hostile work environment” for not inviting her. HR quickly brushed off the incident as personal, citing that they could not control personal events or occasions. It was explained that she is in no way obligated to invite coworkers to a personal occasion.

Work Environment Turns Hostile

Although HR dismissed the complaint, tension still lingered in the workplace despite their decision. The coworker started passive-aggressively slipping in very cold stares and commenting sarcastically to her and bringing up the wedding in conversation here and there.

She even uttered complaints like, “Man, people are so inclusive now,” as the bride walked past.

Reddit Weighs In

The woman shared her tale on Reddit, referring to it as one of the weirdest things she had ever experienced at work. Reddit users expressed outrage and overwhelmingly supported the bride. One user even joked the coworker sounds like the type of person to take food home from a wedding for themself and not give the couple anything. One user suggested the bride file her own complaint for the coworker being passive-aggressive.

And to Respond?

Many Reddit users told the woman to protect herself from more civil harassment. They said the coworker may still do this to the bride, and now it can turn into an HR issue. Some also said to do something quick before it escalated.
