Fact Check: AI Video of Delhi Metro Crash Misleads Social Media

Delhi Metro Crash: Social media users recently circulated a video that appeared to show a metro train derailing after colliding with large concrete blocks placed near the tracks. One user claimed that the incident occurred in Delhi, where the metro allegedly hit the blocks while approaching a station. The post further claimed that the accident killed 5,000 people.

However, a fact-checking investigation debunked the claim. Investigators confirmed that no reports of a metro train derailment had emerged from Delhi. They also identified the viral video as an AI-generated clip, deliberately designed and shared on social media to mislead users.

On June 22, an Instagram user named “me_khusi_2026” posted the video, alleging that it depicted a real tragedy in Delhi. The post falsely reported that 5,000 people had died in the supposed accident. To verify the content, The Desk extracted keyframes from the viral video using the InVid tool. After running one of the keyframes through Google Lens, The Desk found that several other social media users had shared the same AI-generated video while making similar false claims.

Fact Check Investigation:

In order to find any reliable news sources regarding a Delhi metro train derailing incident, the Desk performed a customized keyword search on Google in the following phase of the inquiry. No trustworthy news reports reporting such an incidence were found during the search. Any actual incidence of this kind would have received extensive media coverage due to the severity of the allegations.

After that, the Desk closely examined the film to look for any visual irregularities that would indicate its veracity. After analysis, a number of clues pointed to the video being artificial intelligence (AI) produced. Interestingly, the images had an excessively glossy sheen, which is a typical feature of content produced by AI. The team later came to the conclusion that the video was artificial intelligence (AI) generated and had nothing to do with any actual occurrence that occurred in Delhi.
