From ‘Mysore Pak’ to ‘Mysore Shree’: Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

‘Mysore Pak’ to ‘Mysore Shree’: In an apparent display of patriotism, Tyohaar Sweets, a well-known confectionery in Jaipur, has renamed their traditional candies. “Shree” has taken the place of the term “Pak,” which is frequently used in Indian sweet names.

Moti Pak is now Moti Shree, and Mysore Pak is now Mysore Shree, for instance. According to Anjali Jain, the store’s owner, this adjustment was intended to encourage patriotism among all citizens, not only the military.

Shop Owner Response:

In the recent interview she said, “We made the decision to substitute more patriotic and culturally relevant names for “Pak” in the names of our candies.” With its tagline, “OrdinaryIsBoring – Tyohaar don’t do ordinary,” Jain’s project appears to have been a success.

She also mentioned that because of the recent tensions with Pakistan, many customers felt uneasy when the word “Pak” was used. Following Operation Sindoor and the terror assault in Pahalgam, the emotion was even more acute.

Tyohaar Sweets is well-known for its unique confections, such as treats wrapped in gold and silver. These candies are now known as Chandi Shree and Swarn Shree.

Recent Karachi Bakery Controversy:
Karachi Bakery locations in Telangana had protests following India’s Operation Sindoor, which attacked terror camps in Pakistan. Some organizations called for a name change, arguing that Pakistani city names shouldn’t be used by Indian stores.

Bakery proprietors responded by flying the Indian flag outside their establishments. They explained that a Partition migrant had founded the bakery in Hyderabad in 1953. For seventy-three years, the franchise has been Indian.
