Gachibowli Tree Cutting Under SC Scrutiny, Government Faces Legal Heat

Gachibowli Tree Cutting: The Supreme Court criticized the Telangana government over tree cutting in Kancha Gachibowli. Justice Gavai said no authority can approve cutting trees on private or public land without permission. The court asked the government to explain the steps taken to restore the lost trees. The court said development does not give a reason to destroy trees.


Gachibowli Tree Cutting:

The Telangana government gave an affidavit about the Kancha Gachibowli land. The statement said the land belongs to the government. The affidavit said the land does not fall under forest land. The land sits inside Hyderabad Central University boundaries. The government said the land will be used for development work. The government denied any link to forest protection laws.

Court’s Concern Over Environmental Damage


The court raised strong concerns about cutting trees in city areas. The judges warned against cutting trees without permission or a clear plan for planting new ones. Justice Gavai said saving the environment stands above all forms of growth. The court told the government to stop cutting trees. The court asked for proof of following all environmental laws.

Land Use Controversy in Kancha Gachibowli

The state gave 400 acres in Kancha Gachibowli to Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation. This decision led to student protests. Many students said the land belonged to the university. The state said the land never belonged to the university. The government said the land always remained under its control.

Supreme Court Orders on the Case

The Telangana High Court Registrar reported about the land case. After that, the Supreme Court took action. The court asked the government to give full reports on the issue. The court told the state to stop all work including cutting trees. The court said it will check the reports and continue the hearing on May 15.
