Ganesh Chathurthi 2025: Mumbai is all set for Ganesh Chaturthi, which is celebrated with magnificent Ganesh idols adorned with all kinds of ornaments and grand celebrations. However, what is making the news during this year’s celebration is something else. The figures coming out indicate that the insurance amount for the celebration is a record this time. GSB Seva Mandal, one of the richest Ganesh Mandals in Mumbai, has secured a record insurance cover of Rs 474.4 crore for its Ganesh idol, gold ornaments and volunteers.
Last year, it was Rs 400 crore. Ganesh Mandals are associations of people who celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi. The increase in the insurance amount is due to the increase in the value of the gold and silver ornaments adorned on the Ganesh idol and the inclusion of more volunteers. The insurance cover for GSB Seva Mandal is provided by public sector undertaking New India Assurance. The policy includes all-risk cover, standard fire and special peril policy, earthquake insurance, public safety, and personal accident cover for volunteers and others.
Of the insurance coverage of Rs 474.4 crore, the largest amount has been earmarked for personal accident insurance for volunteers. There is a coverage of Rs 375 crore for priests, cooks, shoe counter staff, valet parking staff and security staff. There is also a cover of Rs 67 crore for gold and silver ornaments and other risks. A standard fire and special policy of Rs 2 crore has also been taken for items including furniture.
The insurance amount for the venue is Rs 43 lakh. The mandal did not want to disclose the insurance premium amount. Officials said this is due to the provisions of the agreement.
The number of people taking event insurance has increased in connection with major festivals like Dahi Handi, Ganesh Chaturthi and Durga Puja. The increase is due to organizers taking greater care to protect their events from risks. Experts say government support has also contributed to this change.
