General Train Ticket Rules Every Passenger Must Know

General Ticket Rules: Millions of passengers travel every day in India. Most people choose a train journey for travelling long journey. This option is chosen for comfort and also for the affordable price. Even here, there are some rules for passengers who want to travel in the best comfort seats. Indian railways provide different types of options for the passengers to choose their coach according to their comfort, and this also comes at a certain price. But the passengers who want to travel in a train only, but in more cheaper way than a General Ticket is the best option is. People who want to buy this ticket have to reach the coach first as this is on a first-come come first-served basis for vacant seats. Anyways, if you are travelling with this ticket, there are some rules to be followed by the passengers.


General tickets are not valid on these trains:
General tickets are not valid on many trains of the Indian Railways. It is not possible to travel on luxury trains like Vande Bharat, Maharaja Express, Golden Chariot, and Rajdhani Express with general tickets. If you board these trains with a general ticket, you will have to pay a fine.

Time Limit for General Ticket:


General train tickets in the country have a time limit. The ticket is valid for three hours from the time of purchase. This means that you have to start your journey within three hours of purchasing this ticket. If you do not start your journey even after three hours, you will have to buy another ticket. If you board the train with an invalid ticket, you will have to pay a fine.

Chance to Get a Reserved Seat:
You should go to the TTE and ask about the available seats if you must travel in a reserved coach during a period of heavy traffic. By paying the required additional fee, you can have the chance to travel in a reserved coach.

When is the fine imposed?
The TTE may charge you if you board a reserved carriage without a ticket. Typically, there is a minimum fine of Rs. 250. The train staff will advise you to take the general coach if you have a general ticket and are traveling in a reserved coach. If not, you might be let off at the following station. Therefore, it is preferable to purchase a ticket in advance and take an empty place in the general coach if you do not wish to go with a general ticket.
