Ghibli-style AI portrait Controversy: These days, the trend of Ghibli-style portrait is becoming increasingly viral on social media. People are getting their photos converted into a special anime style through AI. This new feature of OpenAI’s GPT-4o is being liked by many people, but some people are considering it wrong and insulting.
After the Ghibli-style image generation went viral, an old video of Studio Ghibli’s 84-year-old co-founder Hayao Miyazaki has surfaced again. In this video, Miyazaki called AI-made animations an “insult to life” and said that he would never use AI in his work.
Many people on social media said that getting AI to create Ghibli-style pictures is insulting to Miyazaki, as he was against AI. One user on Reddit wrote, “It is very wrong that AI is being used to copy Studio Ghibli’s art. It is not just a ‘style’ but the result of decades of hard work, art and passion.
Now people are copying it in a few seconds, which is very disappointing for real artists. AI can never capture the spirit and story of real art.” Another user wrote, “Art created by AI is not real art, it is useless.” Another user said, “Nothing is sacred nowadays.” ‘This is an insult to Miyazaki’s hard work’

In another discussion, people said that using AI is very insulting. One user wrote, “Poor Miyazaki worked hard for years to create a scene of just 2 seconds sometimes and now AI is creating it in seconds, this is not right.” Another user wrote, “This is very insulting.” Another said, “Yes, this is an insult to their hard work and time.”
The huge demand for Ghibli-style AI image generation has put pressure on OpenAI’s systems. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said on social media platform X, “We are putting some limitations for a short time so we can make it better. Hopefully, it won’t take too long!”
